

Even in a university course, you can't just go to class and expect to ace the exam - you need to take great notes and review them regularly, do extra reading, use handouts and other resources, etc. So the criticism seems unfounded, at least for French. I also did a free online placement test and scored as A2, which is Lower Intermediate - the level that Unit 6 says it will get you to. To make sure I wasn't being cocky, I wrote a translation and then compared it to the actual English version and it was pretty decent.

I was really surprised to see that I understood it - all the words in the photo below were covered in lessons except the ones in red.

So many people have criticized Duolingo that the other day at the library I decided to put it - and myself - to the test with a French book, even though I'm only on Unit 7.
